MCCDC “Dancing with Marin County Stars” in Mill Valley

The public is invited to celebrate the Marin City Community Development Corporation (MCCDC) 40th Anniversary with a gala event: “Dancing with Marin County Stars,” from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 9, 2019, at the Mill Valley Community Center, 180 Camino Alto, in Mill Valley.

The program will include a cocktail reception and dinner. The Swung Eights, and Mary Lou’s Apartment Ballroom and Big Band Jazz Orchestra will provide the entertainment.

The evening attire will be festive.

The gala event will bring together eight leaders of the Greater Bay Area and eight professional dancers/choreographers who will perform to raise money for restoring the lives of individuals recovering from trauma, severe mental illness and associated stressors.

The eight community leaders who will compete in a Celebrity Dance Competition & Dance will include: Noah Griffin, Dr. Shirley Thornton, Dr. Melissa Cadet, Cesar Lagleva, Jessica Jackson, Herb Taylor, Lisa Bennett, and Andy Naja-Riese.

The proceeds from the gala will help the Empowerment Clubhouse provide a safe and restorative community where individuals recovering from trauma and severe mental illness can become empowered through meaningful work and supportive relationships; and strengthen community development and economic self-sufficiency employment services programs.

For the past 40 years, the MCCDC, located at 441 Drake Ave. in Marin City, has provided employment services to those with limited access to resources to help them get living wage jobs and become more economically self-sufficient. Other MCCDC programs include:

The Construction Trade Program, a pre-apprenticeship program that gives access to higher-paying construction jobs.

The Youth Empowerment Program allows youths to experience the working world and their career interest without judgment or limitation.

The Empowerment Clubhouse cares for those affected by mental trauma or physical disabilities, and encourages them to reach their highest potential at work and in their personal lives.

“The Marin County Stars Gala provides an opportunity for us to celebrate the accomplishments of our participants, our community and our Marin County supporters. Most importantly, it increases our potential to collectively strengthen racial and economic equity for all residents,” said Cadet, the executive director of MCCDC.

Individual tickets are $125. A table of  eight is $1,000. Sponsorship packages are also available for contributions of $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000. Please contact Blia Xiong for more information.
