Marin City residents showed their appreciation to the Southern Marin firefighters on the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 14, and presented plaques and medals to the Marin County Fire Department in Marin City, Mill Valley Fire Department, and the Sausalito Fire Department.

Felecia Gaston, who organized the presentation, said that firefighters provide a variety of services in addition to fighting fires at people’s homes and businesses. As first responders, they attend to people who have major emergency health issues such as heart attacks, those who overdose on drugs, those with gunshot wounds, and to the elderly when they fall and become injured.

The Marin City Fire Department may even help drivers who become locked out of their cars get back into their cars as long as they show proper registration, and if the fire personnel are available and not elsewhere fighting a fire.

The firefighters were presented with a very large ‘Thank You’ card, that was signed by the residents and children.

And, in honor of Black History Month, they were also given a traditional soul food dinner, which included fried chicken, potato salad, and desserts (pound cake, sweet potato and peach cobbler pies). The firemen greatly appreciated this gesture.
