Jon Stewart’s Exit Can Bring In New Late-Night Diversity
One of the biggest questions in entertainment this week is “Who will replace Jon Stewart?”
On Tuesday, on the last segment of his show, Jon Stewart announced that this is his last season on “Daily Show with Jon Stewart”. The announcement came as a huge surprise to fans and even his own staff.
Stewart has been the face of the show on Comedy Central since 1999.
In addition to creating a lane for and popularizing “fake news,” comedic spins on daily and weekly news stories, he has also launched the careers of Oscar-nominated actor Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert (“The Colbert Report” and the new replacement for David Letterman on “Late Night with David Letterman”), John Oliver (“Last Week Tonight”) and Larry Wilmore (“The Nightly Report with Larry Wilmore”), amongst others.
USA Today posted a list of potential candidates, adding that this might be a great time to add some diversity to late night talk shows. Their prospective list included Chris Rock, Mindy Kaling, Key & Peele, Kristen Wiig and Wanda Sykes.
