Oakland, CA – Stephen Curry did it again! Not only did he debut his new sneaker, “Curry 6”, Curry thanked fans with a free concert at the Fox Theater. Nothing “special”, yet only the best for Oakland, the City that has supported Curry and the Golden State Warriors, before they kick off the next season in their new arena (Chase Center) in San Francisco.
Curry accommodated hundreds of fans, which included the two-day frenzy of free ticket giveaways at his pop-up shop in downtown Oakland, a dozen high school basketball teams and an additional 500 guests through Under Armour. Curry especially wanted to celebrate his 10 years with the Warriors.
“The way you’ve embraced myself, my family, my team — this is home for us. This is a celebration of The Town, how special of a place this is, how special the people who live here are,” said Curry.
Oakland’s own Hip Hop emcee, John “Sway” Calloway hosted the event, along with Warriors game host, Ruby Lopez. Curry and friends hosted performances by E-40, Mistah F.A.B., P-Lo and Saweetie, with special appearances by Too $hort and MC Hammer. Guests were treated to a curated experience, which included free food and beverages, photo booths, screen printing and merchandise stations to commemorate the evening.
Curry’s new basketball shoe, Curry 6 ‘Fox Theater’ colorway, was also released tonight and some lucky guests copped a free pair, while other will have to wait for their official release at selected stores on January 4, 2019. The sneaker retails for $130 but limited quantities dropped on December 28th at the SC30 X Oakland, Curry’s popup shop in Downtown Oakland at 472 9th Street. The sneaker releases worldwide on www.UA.com.
