Many individuals and organizations, including the Oakland Post newspaper are organizing a Community Town Hall meeting , Wednesday, July 14, at 6 p.m. to speak to the many questions being asked about the proposal by billionaire real estate developer John Fisher to place residences, a mall and a ballpark on public Port property.

Community experts will speak on the general question: “Will the Placement of 3,000 residences, a mall, and a stadium on Port property harm the Oakland Port?”

One of the most important questions is this:  Will the Howard Terminal project harm the Oakland Port, which is the center of Oakland’s economy? Will Port businesses start using other ports on the West Coast?  Have some already starting using other ports because of the perceived dangers?

  • Will this cause job loss among Black workers and others who now work on the Port?
  • How much will it cost taxpayers?  Would it be better for Oakland to have a stadium in East Oakland?
  •  Is the project environmentally feasible?
  • How would all this affect Oakland as a working-class city?  What kind of “development” helps regular Oaklanders and who decides?

More details will be available soon.
