Curry sets Finals 3-point record in Game 2 win

A record setting night in Oakland came by way of Stephen Curry.  Both he and and Klay Thompson set records for their three-point performances.  However, it was Curry who passed Ray Allen who held the previous mark with 8 in 2010.  Curry launched nine 3s from all over the arc in Golden States’s 122-103 win over the Cavaliers.

Curry also moved ahead of LeBron James for most three’s in postseason history with 370. Thompson joined the list and became the sixth player in NBA history to score 300 three-pointers.  Thompson also became the first player in Warriors franchise history to play in 100 postseason games.

Both teams definitely brought more intensity in Game 2 but it was the Warriors who outscored the Cavs by 13 going into the half, limiting James to just 15 points.  Known for their 3rd quarter performances, Cleveland held Curry to just one point.  Probably the best defense on the All-Star guard which didn’t last long.

Kevin Durant on Curry’s miraculous 3-point performance.

“At this point, it’s expected.”

Right now, the odds are in the Warriors favor as they head to Cleveland up 2-0.  Thompson assured the media in his postgame interview that the team is far from relaxed.

“We’re extremely focused,” he said.  “This team has been down 2-0 in the last two series and came back to win it.  It’s nothing to feel happy about being up 2-0. This team plays great at home, and we expect the other guys to play even better at home, too, not just LeBron.”

Teams that win the first 2 games of the NBA Finals have a 29-4 series record (.879) nearly 90%. Though Golden State should not be too confident yet, the Cavs are the only team in NBA history to rally from a 3-1 series deficit in the Finals. They are still capable of making this a series just as they did back in 2016 when they beat the Warriors for the NBA Championship.

“At the end of the day we have a Game 3 to play, James said.  “You know we’ve got an opportunity to go home, and we played some really good basketball on our home floor.  But that shouldn’t give us any comfort.”
