Young Scholars Program Celebrates Graduates
The Young Scholars Program (YSP) held its 12th Annual “Celebrating Success Banquet” Sunday, June 29 at the Mira Vista Golf & Country Club in El Cerrito.
Parents, extended family and community members lauded 20 YSP participants who recently graduated high school and are preparing to attend college this year.
“The Young Scholars Program helps students go to college and stay in college,” said Jacqueline Rushing, YSP founder and CEO. “Over the last seven years, 100 percent of our kids go to college, and 75 percent graduate from a college within four years.”
Rushing says she is grateful to community partners like the 100 Black Men of the Bay Area for their continued support of YSP and mentorship of its students.
“We have a strong African-American male programming component. The 100 Black Men of the Bay Area provide not only monetary support such as sponsorships of our events but also career mentorship of our male students.”
Rushing says mentors can make a world of difference in the lives of underserved students who often times have limited support preparing for college. YSP is seeking mentors and volunteers to support the next cohort of youth students.
