World Central Kitchen Committed to Providing 1 Million Meals from Local Restaurants

#ChefsForAmerica provide nutritious meals for homeless families in partnership with Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s EAT LEARN PLAY Foundation and Chef Jose Andres’ WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN. Locally, Oakland’s downtown Kingston 11 Jamaican Inspired Restaurant, make and distribute 600 meals.

WCK is working across America to safely distribute individually packaged, fresh meals in communities that need support – for children and families to pick up and take home, as well as delivery to seniors who cannot venture outside. WCK is now active in dozens of cities providing 200,000 fresh meals every day.

Traditional safety nets like school feeding programs, city services, and food banks are struggling to meet basic needs. Seniors, who are isolated for their safety, are unable to access meal services. Meanwhile, the country’s hospital workers are more stretched than ever before.

WCK is also now activating restaurants to help meet this demand by providing jobs for their staff and meals for those in need. #ChefsForAmerica is making a key connection between people who need meals and restaurant workers and drivers who need to earn a living.

As part of its #ChefsForAmerica nationwide emergency food relief program, World Central Kitchen is committing to purchasing 1 million meals from local restaurants, and delivering those meals directly to Americans that need assistance.

Restaurants are the nation’s second largest employer, sustaining 15.6 million American jobs with annual sales of $889 billion. Today, the industry is projecting job losses of between 5 and 7 million in the next three months as sales decline by an estimated $225 billion.

It is WCK’s intention that by working directly with restaurants and providing demand for the restaurant business, we can get meals to those who need them most while also uplifting an industry that needs all of our help to keep their doors open.
