Schumer Statement on Fifth Circuit Ruling In The Texas V. U.S. Case
NNPA NEWSWIRE — “Tonight’s ruling is a sharp reminder to Americans that a heartless lawsuit supported by Congressional Republicans and President Trump is why vital health care protections, especially protections for people with pre-existing conditions, are in grave danger. Americans must not be fooled: Republicans have no plan to lower costs and expand health care coverage, only a lawsuit that takes it all away.
Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer today released the following statement in response to the Fifth Circuit Court ruling in the Texas v. U.S. case:
“Tonight’s ruling is a sharp reminder to Americans that a heartless lawsuit supported by Congressional Republicans and President Trump is why vital health care protections, especially protections for people with pre-existing conditions, are in grave danger. Americans must not be fooled: Republicans have no plan to lower costs and expand health care coverage, only a lawsuit that takes it all away.
“The Fifth Circuit’s cowardly decision, which likely delays a Supreme Court decision until after 2020, is obviously an attempt to shield Republicans from the massive blowback they would receive from the public if the highest court in the land were to strike down the ACA before the upcoming election. So long as Republicans continue to control the Senate and wage this dangerous effort to sabotage our health care system, the health care Americans rely on will not be safe.”
