Sandré Swanson Endorses Desley Brooks for District 6

“I support you 200 percent on your re-election to the Oakland City Council,” said former 18 A.D. Assembly Member Sandré Swanson, enthusiastically endorsing Councilmember Desley Brooks for reelection as District 6 representative on the City Council.

Swanson and Brooks have worked on numerous issues in support of children and families: for civil rights and equity and combating homelessness.

“I believe (Brooks has) been an outstanding representative of the interests of your constituents,” said Swanson.

Brooks said she has long admired Assemblymember Swanson’s work. “I am honored to have such a distinguished public servant recognize my work and to have his support, she said.

Born in Oakland, Swanson, a Democrat, was elected to the Assembly in 2006. during his three terms as an Assembly member, he served as Chair of the Labor and Employment Committee, the Budget Committee, the Subcommittee on Education Finance, Committee on Utilities and Commerce, and the State Workforce Investment Board.

Prior to the Assembly, he served his

community as Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s Chief of Staff after working for 25 years as District Director and Senior Policy Advisor to former Congressman Ron Dellums.
After leaving the Assembly, he worked as Deputy Mayor for the City of Oakland.

Swanson is an expert in the fields of labor, education and budget reform.
