San Leandro Library Host Veterans Tribute




The San Leandro Main Library will host an exhibit and live performance designed to honor and remember all those who have served in our nation’s armed force on Saturday, Nov. 15.

< p>This event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Karp/Estudillo Rooms at the Main Library at 300 Estudillo Ave. in downtown San Leandro.

“Veterans have fought tirelessly to defend our nation’s interests so that we may continue to enjoy all that our great country has to offer. We are proud to host this great event that will pay tribute to their service,” said Mayor Stephen Cassidy.

As part of the event, members of the World War II Military Commemorative Association will present a fascinating museum exhibit of authentic memorabilia, including a vintage jeep.


This organization, which is dedicated to the study and preservation of the military science of WWII, will then provide a living history presentation for the 70th Anniversary of D-Day from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.




Attendees will be able to enjoy a performance by the Swingin’ Blue Stars, comprised of four talented singers from the East Bay area. The group will perform close harmony and swing-style music made popular by 1940’s female vocal groups.

Throughout the day, visitor will have the opportunity to visit the library’s booth to write letters of thanks to those currently serving abroad.

Representatives from the local Alameda County Veterans Service Office also will be available to provide information to veterans and their dependents on federal and state veterans’ benefits.
