Pastor Lawrence VanHook has been named the president of the Peralta Association of African American Affairs (PAAAA) on Jan. 7, 2020. The PAAAA assists Black students of the Peralta Community College District of northern Alameda County in California operating four community colleges; Berkeley City College, Laney College and Merritt College in Oakland, and College of Alameda. VanHook will lead the PAAAA’s advocacy arm that serves Peralta’s African American community of administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

“Peralta Colleges have a long rich history of graduating students that develop into leaders like Huey Newton and Bobby Seale,” said VanHook.

VanHook, who also pastors the Community Church in West Oakland, will conduct the “Racism in America” class at Merritt College in Oakland.
