Vallejo Police Warn of Phone Scams
A Vallejo resident was recently victimized in a phone scam in which the perpetrator claimed to be calling from the police department to warn residents to be aware of such calls.
The caller then threatened to arrest the victim and place her children in the custody of Child Protective Service because of a pending warrant. The caller then told the victim she had to pay $2,000 to stop it from happening.
The caller used a computer program to generate a Vallejo Police Department phone number to show up on the victim’s caller ID but when the victim called back, it went to the department’s automated phone system, causing her to believe her claims.
Residents contacted by someone posing as a law enforcement officer should immediately call their local law enforcement agency, according the Vallejo police in a recently released statement.
For more information or to report a phone scam, call the Vallejo Police Department at (707) 648-4321.
