Vallejo Police Receive Grants to Crack Down on Drunk Drivers
The Vallejo Police Department has several grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) help strengthen enforcement of drunk driving laws.
These grants for community- based enforcement campaigns from OTS are funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This prevention program will help police crackdown on impaired driving and focuses on combining high-visibility enforcement with heightened public awareness.
< p>Last year, Vallejo death was attributed to driving while under the influence and 28 other people were injured in DUI-related crashes. .
The police department received a $220,000 OTS grant that will be used throughout Solano county as the “Avoid the Solano 11” Task Force, which hosts saturation check points at various checkpoints in the county to apprehend drunk drivers.
The police department received an additional $80,000 grant for a year-long program that will provide officers with specialized DUI-related training, saturation patrols, and other enforcement efforts.
The funds will also be used for warrant operations to target multiple DUI offenders.
