Oakland resident Ranza Raye Devereaux will turn 105 on Aug. 18, 2021. Born and raised in Ruston, La., the second-oldest of four siblings, she was a devoted wife to her husband, Walter Devereaux and devoted mother to three children – Nola, Marva and Donna, all of whom are now deceased.

Ranza worked in a clerical capacity for the government and for a doctor until her retirement. She then answered a call to write and attended several institutions of learning to develop her craft. Three books of her poetry have been published: “Raye’s to Share,” “Inside Out,” and “Raye’s on the Range.”
