POST TV: “Fruitvale Station” Production Consultant Interview
[cincopa AUDACN7CwyyK]
Fruitvale Station was released nationwide in July and vividly depicts the 2009 shooting death of Oscar Grant. The film has won numerous awards including the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
Director Ryan Coogler, a native of the Bay Area, was motivated to create the film because he could see himself in Grant when the tragedy occurred. However, with the court ordeal to convict the officer of the crime, Grant was forgotten.
Coogler has said his goal was to bring the humanity of Grant back into the picture with Fruitvale Station.
The movie was backed early on and produced by Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker; the cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer, and Melonie Diaz.
Production Consultant, Ephraim Walker sits down with reporter Brea Hammonds to candidly talk “Fruitvale Station” with The Post.
