OpEd: Potato Chips Will Not Save You

Published

on

Every time that I pick up a weekly ad publication from a grocery store or one of the many competing pharmacy-department stores, the first thing that I see prominently displayed as a “buy two-for-one” item is potato chips, or “chips” of some less salty, uniquely fried variety, 2 for $6 or buy one get one 50% off, or worse yet, buy two get
one free.
It rankles me no end to see how much junk food costs over real food, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, even some meat products, necessary nutrients needed to build inner immunity and metabolic strength to fight off the advances of the latest infectious disease, Coronavirus.
Give us a break, please!  How about offering us a deal on a combo-pack of citrus and other fruits like bananas or papaya and kiwi, onions/garlic, medicinal non-sugary herbal teas in bulk or in bags, whole-grain bread and pasta like brown rice or millet and quinoa, raw nuts with good Omega-3 oils, and so forth that are low in salt and sugar?
Believe me, people, potato chips, even the organic ones, will not save you from the Coronavirus.  Wash your hands!
