New Bicycles for Students at Bayside MLK Academy




Second-, third-, and fourth-grade students at the Sausalito Marin City School District’s Bayside MLK Academy can now receive new bicycles.


Corporate Vision and Turning Wheels for Kids are now offering 35 bicycles complete with helmets. To be eligible to receive a bicycle, a student must write a letter stating why he or she would like one of these bikes.


A New Bike Distribution and Family Biking Workshop was held on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Bayside MLK Academy. A dozen bikes were given away during the event.


The Marin County Sheriff’s Department registered the bikes, The Deputy Sheriff’s Association and Mikes Bikes helped to provide the bike locks. The Marin County Fire Department also assisted at the event.


Corporate Visions is a rapidly growing company that encourages employees to actively give back to the communities by donating time and money. Turning Wheels For Kids is based in San Jose and distributes bikes year round through a number of partnerships focused on preventing childhood obesity. The company also supports low-income families, encouraging outdoor activity such as riding a bike to school or hanging out with friends.


Turning Wheels For Kids reached out to Felecia Gaston, executive director of Performing Stars of Marin, to distribute the new bicycles. Gaston then spoke to Dr. Shirley Thornton, assistant principal Bayside MLK School, to offer the new bicycles.


Safe Routes to School ( provided the 2nd through 5th grade students an in-service bike safety check at the school.


Other partners include the Marin City Community Services District and Bay Cities Refuse.
