NAACP Celebrates 110th Anniversary

OKLAHOMA EAGLE — The National Association of Colored People (NAACP), Tulsa chapter will recognize its 110th Anniversary with three days of programs. All events will be held at Varick AME Zion Church, 2716 N. Yorktown Ave., with Rev. Kenneth Evans serving as host pastor. The national organization of the NAACP was founded in 1909.

The National Association of Colored People (NAACP), Tulsa chapter will recognize its 110th Anniversary with three days of programs. All events will be held at Varick AME Zion Church, 2716 N. Yorktown Ave., with Rev. Kenneth Evans serving as host pastor. The national organization of the NAACP was founded in 1909.

“We are committed to making the future of the NAACP a brilliant and shining example of fighting for justice and championing for those who are in the greatest of need in our community, said Pleas Thompson, president of the local NAACP chapter.

Beginning March 22 at 7 p.m., an awards ceremony will feature Fr. Elkin J. Gonzalez, pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church, as guest speaker. Jerry Goodwin will be master of ceremonies.

On March 23 at 7 p.m., a musical celebration is scheduled with a variety of church choirs performing.

For the final day on March 24 at 6 p.m., Rev. Kenneth Sherrill, Sr., pastor of Greater Zion Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, will lead a worship service.

The NAACP is sponsoring the events with co-sponsors Varick AME Zion Church and the Christian Ministers Alliance.
