Len Raphael, Candidate for City Auditor
Len Raphael, a strong supporter of community oversight of the Oakland Police Department, is running to become Oakland’s City Auditor.
He is endorsed by Councilmembers Desley Brooks, Larry Reid and Noel Gallo.

Raphael pledges to be an aggressive auditor. He says he will use his office to investigate the city’s failure to provide the services that Oakland residents deserve.
“From public safety to potholes to after-school programs, as auditor I will oversee audits of City Hall departments and major contracts that prior auditors wouldn’t touch because of politics,” he said.
“Oakland needs a tough auditor with the backbone to audit OPD, the Coliseum, Public Works, garbage company, Comcast and other sacred cows.”
A resident of North Oakland for 35 years, Raphael is a registered Democrat and a certified public accountant. His experience includes working as a Price Waterhouse auditor and running his own accounting firm for 30 years.
His two sons graduated from Claremont Middle School and Oakland Technical High School, where they both played football. Len’s wife, Betty Raphael, has been a nurse at San Leandro Hospital for many years.
