Oakland resident Ranza Raye Harvey-Devereaux turned 105 on Aug. 18, 2021. Born and raised in Ruston, La., the second oldest of four siblings, she was a devoted wife to her husband, Walter Devereaux and devoted mother to three children – Nola and Marva, and Donna, who is deceased.
Harvey-Devereaux worked in a clerical capacity for the government and for a doctor until her retirement. She then answered a call to write and attended several institutions of learning to develop her craft. Three books of her poetry have been published: “Raye’s to Share,” “Inside Out,” and “Raye’s on the Range.”
