U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Midwest Regional Administrator Joseph P. Galvan designated Genesis Towers as an EnVision Center as part of Secretary Ben Carson’s signature EnVision Center initiative recently in Gary, Indiana.

Following a highly competitive selection process, the Gary Housing Authority (GHA) and the City of Gary were selected to spearhead the EnVision Center demonstration in Gary, Indiana.

It is the newest of only 18 communities across the country with an ‘EnVision Center’ designation and only the second demonstration in the State of Indiana.

EnVision Centers offer HUD-assisted families access to support services that can help them achieve self-sufficiency, thereby making scarce federal resources more readily available to a greater number of households currently waiting to receive HUD assistance.

“Housing assistance should be more than just putting a roof over someone’s head,” said Secretary Carson. “These EnVision Centers offer a more holistic housing approach by connecting  HUD-assisted families with the tools they need to become self-sufficient and to flourish.”

“If we succeed in helping more families become self-sufficient, more families will be able to access the housing assistance they so desperately need,” said HUD Regional Administrator Joseph P. Galvan. “EnVision Centers are our way of bringing hope and opportunity; they serve as a springboard to success for thousands of families across the nation.”

“We are excited to have HUD christen an EnVision Center in the city of Gary,” said Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson. “This designation speaks to the leadership and hard work that is occurring at the Gary Housing Authority and the partnership that we share on behalf of Gary citizens who reside in and outside of GHA property. I look forward to this Center supporting Gary citizens as they work to achieve their goals and dreams.”

“The Gary EnVision Center is premised upon four pillars of opportunity and serving as a catalyst for economic opportunity is at the core of our mission at the Gary Housing Authority.”
