Fishing for a Change in Oakland

This organization offers a 2 day EPE(educate, prepare, & experience) program that allows them to fully delve into what it means to be a fisherman, what to expect, and how to put what they learned into action by taking them to a day on the bay.

Violence within our communities is something that has gone on as long as anyone could recall, especially in Oakland. Violence seemed to be the only thing that was left when there were no resources or support for our youth. With more attention being focused on our youth and the violence that they often turn to as an outlet, more organizations are being created to provide a better alternative.

Live2Fish, an organization founded recently by two Oakland natives; Alonzo Murphy and Rayna Lett, is a non-profit program that supports the youth of Oakland and surrounding communities in Northern California by providing an invaluable experience of peace of mind through the sport of fishing. Through their program, the sport of fishing has proven to improve character traits in youth such as patience, resiliency, self-discipline & self-esteem.

This organization offers a 2 day EPE(educate, prepare, & experience) program that allows them to fully delve into what it means to be a fisherman, what to expect, and how to put what they learned into action by taking them to a day on the bay. This program offers a constructive and safe outlet to youth to aid in dealing with their everyday stressors, rather than turning to other means for sanctuary.

T0 sponsor youth or a fishing trip, please contact Rayna Lett at 510-303-8737.
