Cralle learned carpentry, mechanics, and blacksmithing at a young age. These skills would later become essential in his innovative work. It was there that he first noticed a common problem: scooping ice cream was messy and inefficient. Servers struggled because the ice cream stuck to spoons and ladles, and getting the right shape and portion was difficult.
