PLANK: New Upscale Entertainment Complex Opens in Jack London Square

Plank, an upscale entertainment complex and restaurant, is scheduled to open this month in Oakland’s Jack London Square offering bowling, bocce ball, brews on tap and the latest video games for adults, families and corporate groups.

Occupying the building that formerly housed a Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Plank is creating 150 jobs, and 70 percent are going to local residents. “We really wanted our employees to reflect the diversity of Oakland and provide jobs right here in Oakland,” said General Manager Adam Howe.

According to Marketing Director Bennie Thomas, the new complex is expected to attract a variety of people with different entertainment interests.

“Plank will be the go-to place here at Jack London Square,” he said. “We have something for everyone:

Taking up 50,000-square feet of space, Plank will feature two bowling areas totaling 18 lanes. One area designated, “The Boardroom,” offers a six private lane area for guests 21 and over.

At a restaurant with a capacity for seating 125, and up to 1000 for receptions, guests will dine from a menu including chicken yakitori, ceviche, gourmet tacos, burgers and hearth oven-pizza.

Executive Chef Jason Moniz leads his crew in an exhibition kitchen that allows diners to see their orders prepared. “I use simple flavors and high quality ingredients ensuring guests will get consistently good food,” said Moniz.

An outdoor beer garden with 48 local brew and a bourbon selection compliments the three bocce ball courts and fire pits. With more than 40 HDTV’s and screens above every bowling lane, sports enthusiasts will not miss an event.

Plank has over 60 interactive games where guests will be able to win prizes and a retail area. The complex is owned by, Trifecta Management Group (TMG).
