Tony Carnill Foster, Jr., 34
The life of Tony Carnill Foster, Jr., a Marin City resident, was celebrated on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the Cornerstone Church of God in Christ in Marin City. The repast was held at the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marin City.
Foster drowned while boogie-boarding at Stinson Beach with his girlfriend Justina Kane on the evening of Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Witnesses said he was swept out to sea by a riptide at about 6:40 p.m. An extensive search for Foster was conducted until dark on Wednesday and his body was found at the north end of the beach at 7:15 a.m. Thursday morning.
Foster, better known as “Tone,” was born in Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae on October 24, 1984, to Leona Mae Smith and Tony Carnill Foster, Sr. Foster loved sports from an early age. When he was 8 years old, he joined the Marin City Boxing Club, and learned boxing under the instruction of Edward “Boone” Green, the club’s director. Green saw Foster mature and take responsibility for his actions, and later hired Foster to serve as a fitness and boxing instructor at the club.
Foster graduated from Tamalpais High School in 2003, where he had been a star football player.
After attending the College of Marin for a year and a half, Foster decided to work full-time to help pay his own way. He worked at a variety of retail stores, ranging from Best Buy to Target.
Foster still strove to elevate himself. He enrolled and graduated from the Northern California Laborers Apprenticeship Program to begin a career as a Construction Craft Laborer.
