Sheree Wright-Cox, First African-American Female Police Officer in Fremont

 
Sheree Wright-Cox was recognized by the City Coun­cil of the City of Fremont as the first African-American fe­male police officer in the city of Fremont. She joined the Fremont police department in 1986. Mrs. Cox graduated from Kennedy High School in Richmond, CA in 1975. She has strong ties to the Oakland Area, where she graduated from Merritt College and later on from CAL State East Bay, along with the fact that her son, Taj Tashombe, is Vice Presi­dent, External Affairs, Oak­land Athletics, which keeps her grounded in Oakland.
Officer Cox was selected in 1989 as one of the first Drug Abuse Resistance Education officers in the City of Fremont. This was a part of the ground­breaking D.A.R.E. program. She helped develop the first city-wide gang awareness pamphlet for distribution to schools, parents and commu­nity members.
In 1992, she relocated to the City of Redmond, Wash­ington where became the first African-American female police officer in that depart­ment’s history. She became the first African-American female patrol lieutenant in the City of Redmond, Washington, serv­ing in that role until 2004.
Since 2004, Mrs. Cox has continued her career in the pri­vate sector as a certified inter­nal investigations professional within the financial services industry.
The Fremont City Council recognized and congratulated Sheree Wright-Cox on her trailblazing career and as its first African-American female police officer and expressed their appreciation and grati­tude for her contributions to­
