Police Commission Selects Consulting Firm for Police Chief Search

The Oakland Police Commission has selected the Byers Group as the consulting firm to conduct a search for a new police chief for the City of Oakland. The commission voted unanimously at its June 22 meeting to hire the Byers Group, based in Marina Del Rey in California. In the past, the Black-owned, highly respected executive search firm has conducted police chief searches for Charlotte, North Carolina; Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri; Washington, D.C.; and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The Oakland Police Commission has selected the Byers Group as the consulting firm to conduct a search for a new police chief for the City of Oakland.

 

The commission voted unanimously at its June 22 meeting to hire the Byers Group, based in Marina Del Rey in California. In the past, the Black-owned, highly respected executive search firm has conducted police chief searches for Charlotte, North Carolina; Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri; Washington, D.C.; and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

 

The agreement includes a timeline to recommend police chief finalists to Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao in November at the latest.

 

According to a press release, the Police Commission will keep the public advised of the dates and times of community forums and public interviews of the finalists.
