The Mill Valley Memorial Day “I Love a Parade” on Monday, May 25 was a success where over 35 young people from Performing Stars participated, including pomp pomp girls on a decorated trailer, baton twirlers, hula-hoop girls, and drummers.

Performing Stars also won the award for Best Community Spirit.

Youth instructors were Sherry Hines, Nancy Janko, and cadets from the Novato High School ROTC program.

The community showed their support and volunteered their time to make the parade a success. Patrice Clark and youth at Manzanita Child Development Center made beautiful tissue flowers for the float. Donald Parker of Parker Automotives provided his truck that pulled the trailer provided by Dwayne Smith from DD&L Trucking.

Jessie Washington of Jessie’s Telecom, along with Wayne Price, assisted with the sound system.

Other volunteers who offered their support were: Charles Earl Dent, Nita Green, Kathy Caston, Sharon Johnson, Michael Williams, Homer Hall, Andrea Norwood, Hattie Cook, Barbara Morgan and Johnny Times.

The Marin City Community Services District, Boys and Girls Club and Bayside MLK Academy also provided rehearsal space for Performing Stars.

East Oakland Organizer Needed

The East Oakland Stadium Alliance (EOSA) is seeking an Oakland-based grassroots organizer for a short-term engagement to help grow and mobilize our coalition! Comprised of local businesses, workers, labor organizations, and community members, we are deeply concerned about the Oakland A’s proposal to leave the Coliseum site in East Oakland and build a new stadium at the port. An ideal candidate has on-the-ground campaign field experience, a strong awareness of Oakland and Alameda County political figures, and deep ties to East and West Oakland communities. Being a local resident of Oakland is a plus.

Employment with EOSA is a part-time role and will last for a minimum of four months with an opportunity to extend longer. Transportation and cell phone use would be reimbursed and candidates of color are strongly encouraged to apply.

If interested, please send a cover letter and resume to Emily Penrod, emily.penrod@deweysquare.com. For more info about EOSA, visit our website and check us out on Twitter @AllianceOakland.
