Oakland’s Black Chamber of Commerce Honors 8 Women Leaders
The Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce honored eight Black women leaders who have broken the glass ceiling in various areas in the community on July 17, 2019, at the Impact Hub in Oakland.
“All of us on the stage represent the Chamber’s vast membership and business community: we are doctors, lawyers, elected officials, educators and entrepreneurs,” said Shonda Scott, herself OAACC’s first woman leader. “Collectively, we are more powerful, coming together and each representing our strength in the community.”
Scott was also serenaded by musical guest Grammy award-winner D’Wayne Wiggins of R&B group Tony Toni Tone.
More than 200 people attended, among them Alameda County supervisors Nate Miley and Keith Carson; Oakland City Council members Lynette McElhaney, Nikki Fortunato Bas and Loren Taylor and representatives of the offices of Mayor Libby Schaaf, Vice Mayor Larry Reid, Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Senator Kamala Harris.
The event’s presenting sponsor was Kaiser Permanente and title sponsors were Lane Partners, JP Morgan Chase, CoMerica, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland Athletics.
