Oakland Public Library Offers Beanstack, A New Tool For Young Readers
The Oakland Public Library began offering the Beanstack service, a web-based book recommendation app for adults with children.
Beanstack users create a profile for each child and receive weekly emails with recommended books based on their child’s interests and age. Each title is linked to that book’s record in the library catalog, so patrons can click the link in their email and place the item on hold.
In addition to getting emailed recommendations, OPL patrons can visit the library’s Beanstack page at http://oakland.beanstack.org and click “Discover” to see book lists, themed guides including activities and learning games, and recommended apps for kids.
One of Beanstack’s unique features is its focus on diversity in children’s books.
