Name Change for Dixie Elementary School
The name of the Dixie Elementary School in San Rafael (shown above) will be changed to Lucas Valley Elementary School as reported by the Associated Press. The name was changed because critics linked the name to the Confederacy and slavery. The name of the district, which the school belongs to, will also be changed from Dixie School District to the Miller Creek Elementary School District. The name change was made by the trustees of the 150-year-old Dixie School District who voted 3-1 with one abstention to change the name. The new name for the elementary school and its school district will take effect on Aug. 22, 2019.
