FAME Hosts “Holiday Celebration” for Homeless
The First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME) in Oakland hosted its “Christmas of Caring” celebration last weekend for 75 invited homeless community members.
“FAME Oakland is attempting to be intentional and generous during our Christmas celebration by reaching out to people in order to help them appreciate the mission and ministry of the church,” said Rev. Dr. Harold R. Mayberry, senior pastor of FAME.
On Saturday, Dec. 20, the church hosted a pre-Christmas party with the guests at the church. Professional hairstylists and barbers were on site to style and cut hair.
Manicurists also provided nail care.
On Sunday, Dec. 21, the event concluded with a hosted dinner at Everett and Jones. Members of the church were in attendance to fellowship with the guests.
Rev. Mayberry thanked Dorothy King, the owner of Everett & Jones, for her support and willingness to help the community. He also thanked Councilwoman Desley Brooks for her support in the effort.
Before the event, Mayberry awarded each person with $150 gift cards – all money raised by the church – as a small token of love and support to show there are people who care
