Explore the city’s treasures with Doors Open Minneapolis
MINNESOTA SPOKESMAN-RECORDER — The Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder (MSR) building, a local historic landmark and home to the oldest Black-owned paper in the state of Minnesota, is one of many city attractions that’ll be open to tourists during Doors Open Minneapolis. The weekend-long event, taking place May 18-19 from 10 am to 5 pm, is part of a city-wide effort to offer the public free, behind-the-scenes access to buildings that are architecturally, culturally or socially significant.

Over 100 venues are participating in the event, including the Bakken Museum; Basilica of St. Mary; Estes Funeral Chapel, Inc; Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis; Firefighter’s Hall and Museum; Fort Snelling National Cemetery; H. White’s Men’s Room (HWMR); Hennepin County Government Center; Hennepin History Museum; Minneapolis City Hall & Hennepin County Courthouse; Minneapolis American Indian Center; Mixed Blood Theater; Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery; Wing Young Huie Art Gallery, to name a few.
Caretakers at each site will share unique experiences that illustrate why these venues, and the people and businesses that work in them, are such marvels.
Pre-registration is not required. Just show up at your choice of venues and enjoy.
