Texas House Democrats are on the run: State Rep. Venton Jones on breaking quorum
April Ryan is joined by Texas House Representative Venton Jones to discuss why he left Texas in protest of the redistricting map, the threats received by Texas Democrats and their families, and how Republicans across the country seem beyond conversation or compromise.
Democratic State Representative Venton Jones believes it is “still in the air” regarding Democratic state lawmakers going back to Texas to vote on the state’s redistricting plan pushed by President Trump.
The 50-plus Texas state lawmakers are still on the run. However, this reporter spoke on the record with Dallas Representative Venton Jones this week.
Amid this standoff, Jones is concerned for his family and fiancée as he moves around the country to avoid the gerrymandering vote that could displace Black congressional leaders like Democrats Marc Veasey and Jasmine Crockett. The
As for Crockett, sources near her say she plans to run for the US Senate to thwart this attempt to push her out of the district.
Rep. Jones, when asked what he wanted to say to the Oval Office occupant, President Trump, first sarcastically chuckled and then quoted Maya Angelou, “When they show you who they are, believe them.”
