Award Winning R&B Legend, KEITH SWEAT, To Perform At The HBCU Power Award at Morehouse Homecoming, Friday, OCT. 27, 2023

Nickelodeon Alumni/Motown Recording Artist, Leon Thomas to Also Perform; Co-hosted by Notable Actor and Morehouse Alumnus Isaac Keys

The HBCU Power Awards has added Keith Sweat and his full band to the bill to perform at this year’s HBCU Power Awards. It should be duly noted that civil rights icon, and former Atlanta Mayor, living legend, Andrew Young,  will receive the “Icon Award” at this evening of excellence taking place on Friday, October 27, 7:30PM at Morehouse College (located at Martin Luther King Jr International Chapel – 830 Westview Dr SW, Atlanta GA 30314).

As a senior aide to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) during the 1960s, Young helped shape the civil rights movement and its philosophy of nonviolent resistance.

Ambassador Young joins an impressive list of honorees, including:  Pinky Cole  (CEO, Slutty Vegan/Clark Atlanta), Charles King  (CEO, MACRO/Howard University), Cynthia Bowman (SVP Chief Diversity Officer, Bank of America/Spelman College), Datari Turner  (President, Foxxhole Productions), April Ryan (White House Correspondent) and Henry Goodgame  (VP, External and Alumni Relation/Morehouse College).

The evening of excellence will feature R&B legend Keith Sweat alongside a live band, celebrating 35 years of “Make it Last Forever.” In addition, Motown recording artist Leon Thomas will perform songs from the acclaimed EP, Electric Dusk.

Founded and executive produced by Sundance film/event producer Jash’d Kambui Belcher (Morehouse c/o ’99), and executive produced by actor Derek “Fonzworth Bentley” Watkins (Morehouse c/o ’96) and CEO of URGE Development Group/chief strategist of URGE Imprint Roderick Hardamon (Morehouse c/o ’98), as well as, actress/dancer Faune Watkins (Spelman c/o ’23), the HBCU Power Awards honors the achievements and accomplishments of HBCU alumni and supporters who are making innovative and vanguard achievements in business, sports, philanthropy, media, music, technology, TV, film, politics, civil service and fashion.

“We created the HBCU Power Awards to serve as a platform to celebrate black excellence and to highlight the importance of HBCUs in our communities,” says Belcher. “Our honorees embody the spirit of success and commitment to community that HBCUs have instilled in students for decades.”

“In a time when the existence of our HBCUs is being threatened, the  HBCU Power Awards is a shining reminder of the genius and innovation that black colleges generate every year,” adds Watkins.

Presenting Sponsors of the 2023 HBCU Power Awards include Ford and Amazon.  Additional sponsors are Morehouse College Student Services, Amazon Music, Amazon Prime and Bank of America.

Tickets are available at HBCUPower.com. For more information go to HBCUPower.com
