BAPAC Hosts 5th Annual Carroll Community Service Awards
The Black American Political Action Committee (BAPAC) honored five outstanding community members at the Eighth Annual “Judge George D. Carroll Community Service Awards Reception and Fundraiser” Thursday, May 14, at the Richmond Civic Memorial Auditorium.
This year’s awardees were Alvin C. Bernstine, Charles Evans, Gloria Scoggins, Florene Van Hook and Kyra Worthy.
More than 200 people attended the event, which included addresses by BAPAC board members and elected officials, including District 15 Assemblyman Tony Thurmond, Supervisor John Gioia and representatives of Richmond Mayor Tom Butt’s office.
BAPAC created the community service awards over six years ago in honor of Judge George Carroll in recognition of the judge’s public service record, his belief in family values, individual integrity, personal responsibility, public service and concern for the welfare of others.

Publisher’s note: Last week, The Post published a photo showing Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price with Carol Jones, whose son, Patrick DeMarco Scott, was gunned down by an unknown assailant in 2018. The photo was too small for readers to see where the women were and what they were doing. Here we show Price and Jones as they complete a walk in memory of Scott.
