The Black American Political Action Committee (BAPAC) honored five outstanding community members at the Eighth Annual “Judge George D. Carroll Community Service Awards Reception and Fundraiser” Thursday, May 14, at the Richmond Civic Memorial Auditorium.

This year’s awardees were Alvin C. Bernstine, Charles Evans, Gloria Scoggins, Florene Van Hook and Kyra Worthy.

More than 200 people attended the event, which included addresses by BAPAC board members and elected officials, including District 15 Assemblyman Tony Thurmond, Supervisor John Gioia and representatives of Richmond Mayor Tom Butt’s office.
