Ten-year-old Jayla Davis is being heralded a hero for her quick-thinking actions that saved her 3-year-old sister from drowning.
Surveillance footage captured the moment Kali Dallis jumped into a pool located at the Savoy Apartment Complex in the Atlanta, Georgia, area with a floatie on but when she got into the water, she struggled a bit and it fell off.
Jayla didn’t notice the issue at first, but then ran to her aid, jumping into the water and pulling her out immediately.
“She was like heavy, so I had to pull her by her hair and then I grabbed her by her waist and pulled her up,” Jayla Davis told local television reporters in Atlanta.
A witness called 911 while Kali’s aunt and the apartment operations manager took turns performing CPR.
Police arrived and took over but something about the situation made it more personal, according to Sgt. Ed Lyons.
“I saw my little girl laying there,” Lyons told television station WYFF.
“Same kind of little bathing suit she wears. Same little hair pulled up in a little bun up top. You know, you kind of have to push past that and do what you’re trained to do,” he said.
Although, she was showing signs of life, Kali remained in critical condition. But two weeks after the incident, Lyons said she’s back to being a vivacious toddler.
