Sheila E. and Family Honored for National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month Celebration
The extended family was present as District 5 City Councilman handed the father-daughter duo their awards, noting also that a street would be named for them. Commended for their philanthropy, the co-founder of Elevate Oakland, Sheila E. described how her father had always taught his children that it was important to ‘give back.’
Oakland natives and Latin Grammy-winning percussionists Sheila E. and her father, Pete Escovedo were honored by the Oakland City Council as part of a National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month Celebration. Sheila E., who once toured with Prince, began playing percussion as a preschooler, mirroring her father and his brothers.
