‘National Night Out’ Readies for Return to Richmond
National Night Out (NNO) is set to return to Richmond the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 6, and with it, a whole host of activities like “Kickoff” and “End” events, a caravan and more than 20 neighborhood block parties. The City of Richmond—which has celebrated National Night Out for more than 40 years—said that NNO is a time to recognize the city’s public safety partnerships and also the spirit of volunteerism. “Let’s honor our community volunteers and meet and greet with neighbors and local civic leaders,” said the City of Richmond on its website.

National Night Out (NNO) is set to return to Richmond the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 6, and with it, a whole host of activities like “Kickoff” and “End” events, a caravan and more than 20 neighborhood block parties.
The City of Richmond—which has celebrated National Night Out for more than 40 years—said that NNO is a time to recognize the city’s public safety partnerships and also the spirit of volunteerism. “Let’s honor our community volunteers and meet and greet with neighbors and local civic leaders,” said the City of Richmond on its website.
A citywide block party hosted by the Santa Fe Neighborhood Council will usher in the start of NNO Aug. 6 at 5 p.m. at Southside Park on South 6th Street and Virginia Avenue.
Throughout the evening, a lively caravan will travel through dozens of Richmond neighborhoods, according to the Richmond Police Department. At each NNO registered location, valuable information, food and an opportunity to connect with public safety officials and civic leaders will be available.
The evening’s celebrations will continue from 5 to 8:30 p.m. with an “End Party” hosted by the Parchester Village Neighborhood Council, the Iron Triangle Neighborhood Council, and the Shields-Reid Neighborhood at the Parchester Community Center, 900 Williams Dr. in Richmond.
Want to get in on the fun by hosting your own neighborhood block party? There’s still a bit of time. Parties are encouraged between the hours of 6 to 8:30 p.m. and the deadline to register is July 26 at 5 p.m., according to the City’s website.
