Chess players and their families can try their hand at gaining an advantage at a celebration of “International Chess Day” on Saturday, July 20 from 1-4 p.m. at the main Richmond Public Library’s Community Room.

In an event that’s hosted by the library and West Coast Chess Alliance (WCCA), local enthusiasts can come out to enjoy a competitive afternoon of chess. Opportunities to win some chess swag and enter a raffle for door prizes will also be available for event participants.

The day’s first hour will see WCCA instructors providing free chess instruction, followed up by an open-player blitz competition, a bughouse, a giant chess set and more. Chess sets and chess clocks will be supplied.

“The next move is yours; make it a good one,” stated the WCCA.
