On May 31, more than 20 children received certificates of completion in the “On Track 2 Success” program out of Richmond’s Southside Church of Christ.
The program started when Phillip and Frances Moore learned that children at Southside Church of Christ needed help with Spanish and Math. Phillips, a school board trustee, approached Southside member Joe Fisher, who is also president of the Coronado Neighborhood Council. and asked if the program could be extended to the community, which includes Coronado and Nystrom elementary schools.
The Moores agreed to go by faith and give it a try. The Moores asked for assistance from the members of Southside’s congregation and have a total of 20 volunteers who help with registration, food and teaching.
Two more subject areas were added to the tutoring program: Reading and Comprehension and English for Spanish-speaking.
Called “On Track 2 Success,” the number of children attending grew from five to 25. On Track 2 Success will resume on August 9th and look forward to a great new year.
