City Hosts Community Meetings on Land Use and Construction Jobs
The City of Oakland is moving forward on consideration of new regulations governing land use and construction jobs on city-funded developments.
Before those decisions are approved by the City Council, council members and the mayor are asking the city to hold a series of “Real Talk Community Engagements” for input from Oakland’s business and resident communities who are underrepresented, underemployed, homeless, disenfranchised, unskilled, unsuccessful in bidding on construction contracts and want to participate in making a difference in the quality of life in the city.
The first meeting will be held Thursday, July 25, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Youth Uprising, 8711 MacArthur Blvd. in Oakland.
“We need to hear directly from you what success you have had (or not had) getting high wage jobs in Oakland with benefits,” including the obstacles that people have faced in their job searches and the kinds of support that would have helped them, according to an announcement flyer the city is distributing for the meeting.
Among the issues that will be discussed:
- Project Labor Agreement (PLA);
- Community Workforce Agreement (CWA);
- Oakland’s current local employment policies;
- Race and Equity Impact analysis.
