Thanks to all who will continue to pay tribute to Vera Lorraine Day-Barnes life as she celebrated her heavenly 71st birthday, Wednesday, April 13, 2022, in her new home!

The Day-DeLuna-Bennett-Carpenter-Jones-Ward-Williams families say, “Thank you!” There was such an outpouring of love exhibited to our family and we take this avenue to express our heartfelt appreciation.
We will remember the beautiful cards, the many phone calls, visitations, good food, and especially those, that even with this season of COVID-19, attended mother’s farewell services.
We are certain Vera was pleased that many of you made your way to her homegoing service followed by the moveable repast.

For the many who will learn of Vera’s farewell from this announcement, her service was amazing, well attended, filled with the spirit or remembrance in the air, and permeated with love.
Vera was born on April 13, 1951, and departed her earthly realm on Dec. 23, 2021, at age 70 in Oakland, CA. Her visitation was on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, and her funeral service was on Tues., Jan. 4, 2022, at City of Refuge United Church of Christ at, 8400 Enterprise Way, Oakland, CA. It was officiated by Vera’s pastor Bishop Yvette A. Flunder of City of Refuge UCC. The order of service was as follows: Processional, Prayer – Min. Glenda Goodlow, Greater Mount Carmel M.B.C.; Old Test – Ecclesiastes: 3:1-8 – Mother Shirley Miller; New Test – Romans: 12:12-16 – Mother Dr. Lucki Allen; Musical Selection – “All God’s Children Got Shoes” – Min. Charlene Moore; Obituary Reading – Deacon Louis C. Knox; Reflections; Musical Selection – “Take Me To The King” – Min. Charlene Moore; Eulogy – Bishop Yvette A. Flunder; Parting View; Pallbearers: Ismael Williams, Jr., Henry Bennett IV, Ha-Sinnie Bennett, Indya Williams, Deacon Louis C. Knox, Deacon Tony Lewis; Honorary Pallbearers: Odell Day, Sr., Isaiah Williams, Hezekiah Bennett, Peter Hardy, Jr., Mrs. Gayle Eastman, Ms. Maggi Stewart, and Mother Janice Hardy.
Vera’s inurnment service was Jan. 7, 2022, at Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Richmond, CA.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Day Jr. and Lazell Williams-Day; husband, Leonard Barnes Jr.; son Ismael Williams Sr.; brothers, Joseph (Joe) III, Bobby James, and Christopher Teddy; sisters, Mrs. Adellea Dawson and Mrs. Mattie Dawson.
A mother, loving wife, church mother, fashionista, and friend leaves to celebrate her life; son, Alvis Ward Jr. of Oakland, CA; daughter, Uzuri (John) Day-Carpenter of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Odell (Galena) Day Sr. of Oakland, CA; daughter-in-law Mrs. Constance (Trisha) Williams of Oakland, CA; step-daughter Mrs. Linda (Chapman) Williams of Pflugerville, TX; brothers-in-law Delree Dawson Sr. of Stockton, CA and James Johnson of Hot Springs, AR; sisters-in-law, Clara Ann Clemons of Oakland, CA and Mrs. Georgia (Sue) Thompson of Hot Springs, AR; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, with two on the way; nieces and nephews in several states; numerous friends; her City of Refuge UCC family; sisters of special mention: Ms. Maggi Stewart, Mrs. Gayle Eastman, and Mother Janice Hardy.
