The White House and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday the appointment of Congresswoman Barbara Lee to serve as Congressional Representative of the United States to the 74th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
This is the fourth time Congresswoman Lee has been appointed to this position. Lee will continue to represent the 13th Congressional District of California while she assumes the duties of a representative to the United Nations.
“I am deeply honored by this nomination and I am looking forward to representing my Congressional colleagues at the United Nations. I’d also like to extend my gratitude to Speaker Pelosi for this appointment,” Lee said.
“The United Nations is our single-greatest vehicle for fostering diplomacy and international peace. It is more critical than ever that Congress work with the U.N. to encourage mutual understanding and sustained engagement around the globe” she continued. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in our engagement with the United Nations as we reaffirm our commitment to peace and security.”
