Oakland Wins $16 Million in Federal Head Start Funds

Congresswoman Barbara Lee has announced that the City of Oakland will receive a $16,470,400 federal grant to support Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.

The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“I am excited to announce this critical funding for the City to expand and sustain its Head Start Programs,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Providing access to early education programs is vital to closing the educational gap, breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering student success.”

The city’s Head Start and Early Head Start Program serves over 1700 children.
