Plans are underway for Vallejo’s 26th Annual Juneteenth Celebration scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 21.This year, the event moves from the Vallejo waterfront to City Park, six blocks from downtown at 425 Alabama St.
Vallejo has the only public Juneteenth celebration in Solano County, and the event attracts visitors from San Francisco to Sacramento.
“With attendance and expenses going up year after year, we’re excited to partner with Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) as our co-sponsor to celebrate Juneteenth in Vallejo’s oldest park where we’ll have more space, plenty of shade and a great play structure for kids,” said Angela Jones, president of the African American Family Reunion Committee.
Organizers say GVRD and City Park are a fitting connection to Juneteenth’s focus on family health and wellness and a partnership with La Clinica as a key provider of health information and resources for children and families.
The Juneteenth Celebration will feature exhibitors providing a variety of consumer information, vendors selling clothing, jewelry and accessories, beauty products, artwork, and much more.
Children and youth are encouraged to participate in an artistic expression competition. Food vendors will be on hand, and Erika Blue from Ozcat KZCT Radio 89.5 FM will emcee the live entertainment.
The application deadline for vendors and exhibitors is Friday, April 4. Performers may submit links to videos on YouTube to be considered for the entertainment program.
