Oscar Grant

Community members and leaders gathered on New Year’s Day at the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland to commemorate Oscar Grant, killed by a BART police officer on Jan. 1, 2009.
The vigil included speeches and performances by Donald Lacy, Fred Hampton, Jr., Grant’s family members Wanda Johnson and Cephus “Uncle Bobby” Johnson and  a poem by his daughter Tatania Meja.
