As Oakland’s public schools begin the new school year, Oakland Based Urban Gardens (OBUGS) is already working with working with children at Lafayette Elementary School making garden veggie chow mien and handing out giant zucchinis to students and parents.
The gardening program held summer camps at two Oakland school sites: Lafayette Elementary and St. Martin de Porres Elementary from June 18 to Aug. 9, offering children a chance to make solar oven pizza, bike blender pesto pasta, and veggie spring rolls.
OBUGS is accepting applications for volunteer Garden Instructor Assistants for the 2012-13 school year. For information on OBUGs, which is part of LifeLong Medical Care, go to www.lifelongmedical.org.
